How should I prepare for my procedure?
1 month before procedure
- Suspend any kind of anti-depressants, vitamins, supplements and homemade remedies, unless authorized by the doctors.
- Stop smoking tobacco and any addictive substances such as marijuana or others.
- Proper birth control care
2 weeks before procedure
- It is very important to stop taking any kind of anti-depressants such as Zoloft (sertraline and others). Homemade remedies are also restricted unless authorized by the Surgeons.
- If you suffer from high blood pressure or if you are 40 years or older, it is necessary to monitor your blood pressure regularly at least two times a week and inform us of any irregularity so that we can give instructions or important information you may need.
- It is very important not to smoke tobacco, marijuana, or any other drugs. This will help you in a better recovery and reduce risk of any complication or cancelation of your surgery.
1 week before procedure
- It is highly recommended to follow a low sodium diet. Choose salt free food, avoid red meat and caffeinated drinks.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages. Drinking alcohol raises possibilities that antibiotics are less effective and may lead to a complication or infection.
- Avoid garlic based supplements and/or vitamin E, which are anticoagulants and may lead to excessive bleeding and forming hematomas.
- Do not take decongestants or anti-inflammatory medications. It is very important to stop taking Aspirin (Anacin, Bufferin, Kids aspirin), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), Naproxen (Aleve), or any other anti-inflammatory medication, discontinue the use of decongestants such as Sudafed or Actifed to prevent any bleeding problems.
Within 1 day of your procedure
- Rest! To have a better recovery, get at least 8 hours of sleep. Avoid staying up late before the day of your procedure.
- Avoid just before the procedure: driving may cause stress and other factors that may affect your blood pressure. This may result in delaying, rescheduling or canceling your procedure.
- It is very important that you arrive on time (7:00 a.m.) as established by your coordinator. Our priority is to offer the personalized attention you deserve.
- Do not eat or drink anything on the day of your procedure. The last meal you can have should be no later than 10pm on the day before your procedure. After that you are not allowed to eat or drink anything, not even water or gum. After the procedure, nurses will provide the allowed liquids or food at the right moment, as well as a diet to follow during your recovery stage.
- Avoid bringing valuables like jewelry and electronics. You will not be needing them VYO is not responsible for any such valuables.
- Remember to arrive without make up, perfume or creams.
- Remember to remove earrings, piercings, hair extensions, acrylic nails and nail polish.
- We recommend to bring comfortable loose clothing, with buttons or zippers, sports pants or leggings and no lace shoes.
- In case you are actively taking medications, it is important to inform your coordinator, in order to know if you have to consult with your doctor about suspending the use of such treatment or to avoid any allergic reaction or alteration that could cause cancellations.
